Sri Lanka’s highest town and the historic heart of Ceylon Tea country, Nuwara Eliya has a curious colonial character – Tudor-style hotels, manicured gardens, a racetrack, and an English country town aesthetic dropped into a tropical highland. The surrounding countryside is covered in geometric tea estates, and the town serves as the base for visiting major tea factories and for the famous Nanu Oya to Ella train journey. Best visited February to April.
