Sri Lanka’s southern and northern coasts offer some of the most accessible large whale encounters in the Indian Ocean region. Blue whales and sperm whales are regularly sighted off Mirissa and Trincomalee, while spinner dolphin pods are a near-constant presence off Kalpitiya. We arrange responsible, small-boat excursions with reputable operators during the appropriate seasons, and always with a note that wildlife sightings, however likely, are never guaranteed.
